Question: Will I be free from past karmas(good/bad),if I be in the present moment?

Answer: Let us understand the concept of mind and present moment first. As long as there are impressions, mind exists. When the mind is free of past impressions, it becomes no- mind. When you are in a state of no-mind you are in present moment! i.e you are in the self

(Big mind). So it is actually the other way around. When you are free from past karma

(impression) , you will be in the present moment. Being in the present moment is not though any effort. Effortlessness is the key for the mind to relax and be in the moment. You cannot keep telling your mind always to be in the moment. ( Because, the very nature of the mind is to wander.) It’s like a catch 22 situation. When you are tense, afraid , then also you are in the present moment ! But this is not a relaxed state of mind.

No-mind is the key for present moment.

Ultimately, what stops you from being in the moment is your ego, intellect and desire. When you are totally contented ( no desire whatsoever) then you are naturally in the present moment. You cannot get rid of your karmas youself (Krishna says that in the Gita). Surrender both good and bad to the divine, to the Guru and the divine will look after your karma.
