Your mind can be your best friend if its under your reins and your worst enemy if you are under its reins. Rather than the analogy of master/ slave, I like the ‘friend/enemy’ analogy. Nature of the mind is to keep changing. Mind likes one thing for a moment and hates the same thing the next moment. Mind keeps oscillating between the past and the future. When you get the mind to the present moment, it is your good friend. When mind becomes “no mind” in meditation, it is your best friend. When the mind takes you on a trip of past and future, galloping on one desire after another desire, gets you jealous, makes you feel hatred towards others and yourself, lusts for pleasure after pleasure, makes you aggressive, distracts you from experiencing silence it becomes your worst enemy. Most of the time, our mind is not under our control. Yoga, Pranayama, Meditation, Music, chanting are some of the ways to befriend the mind.
