How long does a Guru help his disciple?

A true and compassionate Guru not only shows the path but hand-holds the disciple till the goal is reached. ( the goal here is subject to interpretation) A beautiful story often heard during the days of Gurupoornima comes to my mind, Guiding the student though easy and difficult times on the spiritual path, the Guru takes the disciple to meet God. On seeing both Guru and God, the disciple rejoices. But a confusion dawns on him. How should he bow down to first? The one who has taken him to God or God himself. The Guru notices this confusion in the mind of the student and immediately takes a step back and allows the student to bow down to God first. On seeing this, the disciples’ eyes is filled with tears of gratitude. A true Guru expects nothing from the student. Such is the compassion of the Guru. The above is a story to depict the compassionate, unconditional love of a the Guru. In actuality, there is no difference between God, Guru and our own self
