How does one work with Ketu in one's life?

Ketu stands for dispassion, while Rahu stands for passion. Rahu stands for craving and ketu for aversion.

Ketu is headless which just means whichever house ketu is in the horoscope, one doesn't give much importance to it. Not that it is not interested but ketu wants to dig deeper into that aspect. It is not satisfied with superficial things.

Eg when Ketu is in the house of career, one doesn't give much importance to name and fame which are very superficial. This planet encourages spirituality, mysticism, metaphysics, research work etc.

It is very common to see people getting extremely dejected and lazy during the Ketu period. Meditation, Yoga helps a lot in energizing and kindling one's interest.

A headless planet needs a big head to deal with:). So praying to Elephant headed Ganesh, will bring immense strength in handling Ketu related matters. Just as an elephant is strong and stable and uproots whatever obstacle is in its paths , praying to Ganesh gives us the strength to come out of inertia/ dejection and helps us move ahead.
